What does this reference number mean on ferderal taxes?
Q. I went online to check the status of my federal income tax return. When I entered in all the information a page came up saying that they can not provide any information on my return (it has already been accepted) and that I need to call the IRS and tell them reference number 9001. Does anyone know what that reference number means?

A. I'd recommend calling them and telling them what you experienced - it sounds like an internal number they use to identify the problem with your query.

How to ask for reference whom you haven't talked to in a long time?
Q. I have a potential good reference (best I can get) and the problem is that I have not talked to her in a very long time about a year. I am planning on e-mailing her but I am not sure what to say in the letter, for I am kind of worried that it will sound demanding or pushy. What should I write to her? Like "I hope you are doing fine", "How have you been?"...? Also this was one of my old instructors who I did a lot of volunteer work.

A. Simply re-connect - say hello, ask how she is, tell her what your goal is in applying for this new job and simply come out and ask for reference. If you had a good relationship with her and you're confident she'll say good things about you, there is no need to worry about being demanding or sounding pushy. References are very, very common in the world of business and people give them for people who deserve good references. It's just standard practice. Another point is that one year is NOTHING in terms of time that has passed - I have references from years ago and they still give me good references when asked. How can I cross reference an interior paint name or code to another brand?
Q. I prefer to buy BEHR paint but have a color I like from ACE. Is there a way to cross reference the colors without having to go to Home Depot to scan the color?

A. If you like using Home Depot range paints, what is the problem about getting them to mix the color,? I am a contractor and have been asked to produce some weird and wonderfull colors sometimes, Home depot are excellent at creating most colors and you know that you can buy with confidence. As regards to cross reference, you will make hard work of a very easy problem, all stores have their own names of colors and i believe it would be very difficult to call any store with a color reference and say can you make this color for me. Is white really white? Go to Home Depot and purchase their brilliant white ceiling paint, go to a Duron store and purchase their brilliant white ceiling paint, place the two side by side, one will look gray. So… [cont.]
