How does the system of classification reflect the great diversity and independence of living things?
Q. I am learning about classification in biology, and I need help. Please and Thanks.

A. Taxonomy is the science of classifying species. Nomenclature is how they are named. Linnaeus is considered the father of taxonomy with his method of naming species, but in those days they thought that all organisms were created by God, quickly, and had no relationship to each other. Thus Linnaeus could classify insects and reptiles together as they had plates on the outside of their bodies. Today, we know from the fossil record, DNA analysis, and other tools, that organisms are related to each other through common descent. Modern classification systems show the position of species in relation to other species and who is more or less related. I don't know how one shows the "independence" of living things, rather the classification… [cont.]

A. Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Carnivora Family: Canidae Genus: Canis Species: Canis lupus Subspecies: Canis lupus familiaris The subspecies part is important now. Dogs used to be considered their own species, but not that long ago, they were reclassified as a subspecies of wolf.
