What is the difference between a nationally accredited college and a state accredited college?
Q. I need to know about this asap because of my girlfriend's college problems transfering from Brown Mackie College which is nationally accredited but not state accredited. Doesn't nationally accredited mean more? Please help me!

A. I graduated from Southern Ohio College back in 2001, and what was SOC is now known as Brown-Mackie, so I feel for you. In my case (meaning I don't know what applies for you and you don't need to reveal your location), I live in the Cincinnati area, and Northern Kentucky University said they didn't accept credit from SOC. *However,* if I were to go to Northwood University, I could get all of my credits to transfer. Northwood accepts SOC credits from the time I was in school at SOC, and NKU accepts Northwood credits (or at least they did when I spoke to them last year). Perhaps there's a similar relationship where you live. Good luck!

What's the difference between Regionally accredited and Nationally accredited schools?
Q. I'm currently going to college on-line and when I started the counselor told me that the college was regionally accredited. I asked what that really means and if I could get a job out of state if I wanted and he said yes. But is that true? I need to know the difference between regionally and nationally accredited school? So if anyone can help, thanks. I'm afraid that I have wasted my time and not including money.

A. I work at a college, accredited by SACS, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. On their FAQ page at it has the question of what is the difference between regional & national accreditation, and here is their answer: -- What is the difference between regional, national and specialized accreditation? Regional accrediting bodies conduct comprehensive reviews of institutions of higher education and operate primarily in a specific geographical area. The accreditation granted encompasses the entire institution including reported branch campuses, other instructional sites, and distance learning modalities. Regional accrediting bodies typically accredit a wide range of institutions offering associate, baccalaureate, master s and/o [cont.]

What is the best accredited school for online radiology technician courses?
Q. I am looking into taking courses online to become a radiology technician. There are a lot of options, but of course each school likes to call themselves the best, and they also like to call themselves accredited. I'd like to hear from some x-ray and radiology techs about their school experiences, and hopefully find an NEA accredited university with a good radiology technician program. Thanks!

Are there accredited online college courses that you can sign-up and start quickly?
Q. I am one class shy of graduation with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. I have to take a Business Law course and have a little over two months to complete the course. Do you know of an accredited college that offers online courses, has a fast registration process, and would let me take one course at my own pace and be done with it?

A. If you are a good test taker and if your college will accept it, there is a CLEP exam for Business Law. I didn't find this one all that demanding and was able to pass by studying an inexpensive study guide and reading the web. If that's not an option, and only if your college allows you to take outside courses this far into your program (I'd get that in writing before you take a course) then Louisiana State University offers Business Law online ( (they are AACSB) and their cost is very reasonable. They have rolling admissions to classes as opposed to the semester system so you can do it now. They require proctored exams and the courses are rigorous - this isn't an easy way out but would meet the demands of most colleges. Make… [cont.]

How to find out if a Christian School is accredited or not?
Q. I registered my son for Kindergarten into a Xian school.I thought it was accredited. It seems it isn't-a parent said so.How can I find if the school is accredited or not?Is there any site?Is there any problem in continuing 1st grade in such a school and then joining 2nd grade in a public school.Usually is there a cut off age for joining 2nd grade.
Asked by Febi T - Fri Aug 20 14:41:44 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well you could always call the school and then check with the State school board on the school, if its accredited it would be registered as such, if the school says it is and the State says its not the school could get shut down for making such a claim. As for switching to a public school there is no cut off age for 2nd grade in public schools usually, as long as the child is young enough (7 to 9 years old) schools will usually allow them to be registered.

A. For individual online courses, I like LearningLinks, through Northwestern University, EPGY (math and science, through Stanford), and the online courses from Duke TIP (at Duke, run by Duke) and CTY (run by Johns Hopkins.) They're only individual courses, though, and most are for grades 6 and up.

The short answer is NO. But, your question leads to other questions about where you may be allowed to teach outside of the public or private schools. If you submitted a nationally recognized high school diploma to a daycare center in the U.S., you probably can become a daycare teacher where you would serving a daycare center. Furthermore, you may be able to teach with a curriculum specially designed for babies and children , ages six months to 5 or 6 years old. A. I did all of my high school at Halstrom High in California. Its independent study pretty much but they also have an online program you can sign up for virtually anywhere in the States. If you go to their website and let them know youre interested Im sure you could get started on it. I have not tried any online classes but I know Halstrom (the actual school) was VERY helpful and flexible to my needs. I ended up in a UC college too!

Is it possible to go to an accredited accounting school in Korea and then do accounting in the US?
Q. I graduated already, and unfornately, the only thing related to accounting is a Management minor with ONE financial accounting class. I'm interested in accounting, but I want to go to school in Korea. Is it possible to go to a US accredited accounting graduate school in Korea? What schools are they and how can I check to see if it really is accredited? Should I do online classes instead? Get experience first? or is it possible to get a business degree to qualify for the courses i need to become an accountant?

A. I completed 90 units as accounting major in Korea and graduated in USA with BS degree in finance. In order to be qualified for AICAP, I requested a credential evaluation service for foreign education as directed by California Board of Accountancy and got credited for all the accounting classes I took in Korea so I could sit for AICPA exam. You can probably contact this: where I requested the evaluation service.

A. Accreditation is normally very relevant if you want to pursue further studies sometime at another institution, at both national and international levels, and may get you exemptions, membership to professional bodies, government jobs, etc. It ensures your certificate is officially endorsed by a legally recognized institution. Over the last years there has been growing international concern re so-called "ghost universities" and their qualifications, particularly within the Commonwealth. What are some good accredited online seminaries/divinity schools?
Q. Hello. I'd like to start earning credit hours towards an M. Div or other graduate-level theological degree. I'm definitely looking to do this online from a fully accredited university. Also, I live in Ohio so, if I do need some on-campus time, something near here that I would be able to drive to once a month or something would be fine. Any thoughts? Thanks.

A. I'm trying to figure out why you need it to be accredited. An accredited diploma is not what gets you into college. Thousands of homeschool students go to college each year and most of them do not have accredited diplomas, but they have taken either the ACT or SAT and received a high enough score to be accepted by a college.

Should I major in computer engineering if the program is not accredited? How important is accreditation?
Q. The university that I currently attend offers Electrical and Computer Engineering and the programs are very similar except for a few different courses. I am in my sophomore year and I changed my major from computer science to EE. I was thinking I would Major in EE and minor in CS, but my advisor feels I should just major in Comp Engineering since I already have a little knowledge. However, the CE program is relatively new so it's not accredited as of yet. I really changed my major because I didn't want to limit myself to computers. But my advisor says the same jobs an EE can get a CE can get. How true is this? And what should I do major in Electrical Eng and Minor in Computer Science or should I just major in Comp. Eng.

A. If you want to go to some really high rated grad school it is important. As long as your school has ABET accredited engineering programs, the individual department accreditation is not that important. The most important thing is passing the PE when your done. But major in EE because its in demand. With EE you can still be a computer engineer anyway.
