How would 4-credit courses transfer to a college where the courses are only 3 credits?
Q. If a 4-credit course has a corresponding course at a second college which is only 3 credits, how would the 4-credit course be transferred? Would one credit be dropped for each transferred 4-credit course?

How would solar federal tax credits benefit the owner of a S corp?
Q. A business that puts in a solar energy system is entitled to a 30% federal investment tax credit. I am not sure if or how this could benefit owners of an S Corp. I am also wondering the same about C corps and LLC's? I was told that solar tax credits would have no benefit for S corps and the like because they typically do not pay any corp income tax. I am not sure if this is true. Thanks for any help with this.
Asked by James F - Tue Apr 29 20:14:17 2008 - - 1 Answers - 2 Comments

A. This credit would benefit the owners of an S corp on their personal returns as their share of the credit would be passed to them on the Schedule K-1 that they would receive from the S corp. In the case of a C corp, it would be a credit against their tax liability just like any credit. As far as an LLC, the question doesn't make sense since the term LLC is an adjective describing the company - it is not a form of business in itself. In other words, and LLC could be a sole propriatorship, a partnership, an S Corp, or even a C Corp. In a nutshell, this credit, like all credits, would benefit whoever pays the taxes of the business - the C corp itself, or the owner(s) or the sole proprietorship or partnership or S corp.

How many credits can transfer from a community college to a state accredited university?
Q. Specifically, I used to attend Bergen Community College and transferred over to Rutgers Newark. Currently, Rutgers has accepted all 24 of the credits I took during my first year in college. If I were to attend Bergen Community College over the summer and take course(s). Up to what limit would they stop allowing those credits to be transferred over? New Jersey

A. Whenever you transfer you are always at the mercy of the place you are transferring to. Every place his its own rules, so I'd check with them.

How many college credits should I take with a new baby?
Q. I am currently a college junior and will be having my first baby in late august. I was just wondering from other student-mothers how many credit hours you would recommend that I take during the fall semester. I am planning on doing mostly online courses, and I will not be working more than 15 hours/week if at all. I am currently majoring in family dynamics and human development, and in the past I have found myself able to manage around 14-16 credits comfortably.
Asked by babydoll32 - Tue Mar 6 14:09:06 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, I'm also a college student and also due in late August. The main thing that I considered is that the fall semester starts at the end of August, so if I have the baby right when school starts I know I'll want to take some time off immediately after having the baby. So you should consider when the semester starts and if you'll be ready to go back to school right after having your baby. Like with my school, if I miss the first class (which I could since I'm due so close to when the semester starts) I would be dropped from the class. Also, if you have to miss a few days you could fall behind pretty quickly. Personally, I'm considering just taking the semester off. If I do take classes I'll probably only take one. I really want to be… [cont.]

How to earn college credits for liberals degree?
Q. How does the whole college system work? I am planning to go to a community college and maybe major in Autobody Repair & Painting. I think that the degree I would be earning from that would be like an AAS, right? I'm not too sure. But yah, I have a friend that says he couldn't get into his major at the moment so he is currently going for his liberals. What is a liberals degree good for? How many credits, or how long would it take to this? Or how does the credit system work with math, english, and all those other classes?
Asked by Justin - Thu Aug 27 18:04:56 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Liberals usually requires math and english, but depending on your field of study it could be different, autobody repair probably requires science class also. I'm sure if you go in to see your college counciler they would be more than happy to help you set up your classes! Not sure what you mean about the credit system? Most classes are a half semester long (either fall or spring), each equalling 3 or so credits, and you need a certain amount of credits to get your degree. Good luck! :]

A. Well I recently got accepted into the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, it's ranked #3 in the country for art schools and also it has a interdisciplinary system. This means you are able to focus on one type of medium but you can also explore other types... Most art schools only look at your portfolio and standardized test scores being the ACT or SAT. Again it just depends on the school some schools are really big on grades such as The Minneapolis College of Art and Design

A. As far as getting into college goes, you probably need four units of English, at least two of foreign language, biology, chemistry, and another science class (as you are thinking about dentistry, physics or an environmental science would probably both be good choices), three to four units of mathematics (Algebra II is essential, as you are interested in something that requires mathematical knowledge, pre-calculus would be helpful and either calculus or a statistics class would also be a big plus), US history, US government/civics, perhaps a unit of economics, plus maybe a fine arts class or two. This is probably typical of the basic standard for most high school students. If you do more than that and do well at it, you only help your… [cont.]

Q. I will be taking Biology, chemistry, speech, english, and scociology Do you think it will be too hard for me? I will not be working also so i thought it would be good to to take as many classes as i can. Do you think this is ok? Or what do you suggest. A. 15 hours is a full load, if you expect to do it well. Besides, have you noticed that biology and chemistry are each worth 4 hours? That's because they both have a required lab that goes along with the course, must be passed, too, and takes more hours than the class itself!

A. You should talk to the university directly. Ask them how much it costs to buy graduate classroom credit, including the cost to apply it to your transcript; and ask them the total cost to buy one of their degrees. See what kind of answer you get.

How many credits beyond the 120 am I allowed to take?
Q. I ask because I want to double major, but I've only got a limited number of credits left. If I were to double major now, it would take me all the way up to 135 credits. Do you think that they would allow me to take this many credits beyond the 120 needed for a bachelors degree?
Asked by Edward - Tue Jul 8 19:43:14 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As many as you want, as long as you pay for them or stay the extra time. If you're at a private school, they might limit you, but usually it's not to hard to fit a double major in there as long as you don't waste time - they want you done in 4 years. Public schools don't really care - stay as long as you want.

Asked by Lisa - Sun Jul 26 15:42:59 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you are already registered, your registration form will tell you. Each class is assigned a certain number of credits. A standard class is usually 3 credits, but you have to look at your own schedule. A language class, like Spanish, is often 5 credits. The schedule you used to find the class and to register should say how many credits are in each class. Just add them up. There's no way we can answer this question for you unless we look at all of your course information. You need at least 12 total to be considered a full-time student.

How many carbon credits does Al Gore buy when he flies on a private jet?
Q. The reason I ask is because Cathay Pacific ( very nice airline by the way) has a deal that you can buy carbon credits for the miles you fly. 800 for a trip to China. That's coach by the way. It seems to me that Al should be popping about 80,000 for the same trip based on the economy of scale reletive to a 10 passenger jet compared to a jet that holds 350+ people. Do you think he will do it?
Asked by debbi - Mon Dec 31 18:51:59 2007 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. LOL!!! Now an airline is selling you carbon credits. The better question for Al Gore is why he lives such a wasteful life in the first place. Is buying carbon credits to "offset" your carbon footprint real better than minimizing your carbon footprint in the first place? How about minimizing your foot print and going out in your front lawn and plant that tree yourself. Even better yet, plant that tree and don't kill 10 others sending out press releases telling everyone what you did.

How do your college credits affect your starting rank in the Navy?
Q. I've been told that if you have a certain amount of college credits you start out in the Navy at a higer rank. (E2 or E3 I believe) If that's true, does that start after boot camp? Does it increase your pay right away?
Asked by obviously_uninformed - Thu Mar 26 21:07:54 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can get E2 or E3 from credits, like someone said 1~2 years of college. You can also get advanced from referrals, and passing your fitness test with your DEP book test. I'm not 100%, but I believe you get paid from the start at your pay grade. But that doesn't matter much in boot, your RDC won't care if you are E1 or E3. If it doesn't start right away, it will start before going to your A school, right after boot camp.

Does fostering dogs or cats count for credits for volunteering?
Q. I want to be a volunteer at an animal shelter since it also counts as credits for high school. Fifteen hours equals ten credits. Would being a foster parent for them count? They would be in my home 24 hours a day and I am a volunteer, so would that count for 24 hours? Just wondering, thanks!!
Asked by cali nocturnal - Fri Sep 14 19:32:26 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You might ask at the school how it would be calculated. Taking care of foster animals does count ~ however, you can't claim 24 hours a day since you not actively caring for the animal that entire time. What I suspect would count is the actual time you feed the animal, clean his kennel, walk him, and groom him.

Am I required to use previous college credits when transferring to a new school?
Q. Three years ago, transcripts from my previous college show that I failed some classes and the others were almost as terrible. I believe my GPA was somewhere around 1.8 out of 4.0 and I earned 28 credits. I am planning on going to medical school in the future and of course, I need a higher GPA. That said, I was hoping to start as a freshman this time around. Could I opt out of using that college credit and go in new? Any feedback would be appreciated.

A. Some schools have what they call "academic forgiveness" meaning if you went to college, flunked out, then come back after a certain amount of time, they will let you retake the courses and replace the grade. I know my school has it, and it's something like a 5 year time period. Look for a good premed school that has that, and you should be good to go. Even if it does end up counting, work your butt off, get straight A's. Even if your GPA isn't great for med school, if you have good references and a good MCAT score, they will look at your grades as improvement if they're much better now. Good luck! All grades/credits from any institution will count or be seen on your transcript. When you apply for programs, they ask if you've previously… [cont.]

A. I'm sorry, I don't understand your question. The amount of credits required to complete a 4-year program varies from university to university. For the school I go to, it's 20, but somewhere else, it can be something like 150. That doesn't mean it's easier or takes less time at my school, just that my school allots credits differently than another schools, and in both cases, it takes 4 years (which is the important thing). After completing 4 years successfully, you have your undergraduate degree. Then you can pursue a Masters/Graduate degree, which is another 1-2 years. After that, you can pursue a PhD, which usually takes people around 7 years. It all depends on the career though, so it's impossible to give a "general answer" to your "gen [cont.]
