Distance education, or distance learning, is a field of education that focuses on the pedagogy, technology, and instructional system designs that aim to deliver education to students who are not physically "on site" in a traditional classroom or campus. It has been described as "a process to create and provide access to learning when the source of information and the learners are separated by time and distance, or both." In other words, distance learning is the process of creating an educational experience of equal quality for the learner to best suit their needs outside the classroom. Distance education courses that require a physical on-site presence for any reason (including taking examinations) is considered a hybrid or blended course of study. This emerging technology is becoming widely used in universities and institutions around the globe. With the recent trend of technological advance, distance learning is becoming more recognized for its potential in providing individualized attention and communication with students internationally. I've some questions about distance learning : - Are the degrees we obtain from distance learning similar to those offered in normal courses ? As with any course, you usually have to buy a book and complete tests, projects, and/or written assignments. The only difference is that instead of handing in the assignments physically, you submit them online (through email or a discussion board). Class discussion usually take place in a "chat room" or something similar. Tests themselves vary. Some teachers give you an essay or project which you have to submit by a certain time and date (ex: midnight on Oct. 26). Q. I am applying through UCAS for entry to University for Sept 2010 however, does anyone know what you put distance learning as in the education section? I am studying for one of my A levels through ICS and need to put that the result is pending but there is no ICS or distance learning option.
