Which Mode should i use for a recording video, Sp, LP, Or EP/SLP modes?
Q. I'm recording star wars 4, 5, and 6 On different tapes I would like to try and get 2 movies on a tape but i will settle for 1 full one. The brand is Maxell Standard grade video tape. SP mode goes for 2 hours LP mode for 4 hours And EP/SP mode goes for 6 hours The obvious would be EP/SP but what is the difference between the modes
Asked by Jake K - Mon Oct 20 17:44:23 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on how many tapes you want to use. If you want to get two movies on one tape, use LP. The only thing is if you use LP, the quality won't be as good. Best to go with SP and use more tapes. You could try EP/SP you might get all of them on, but the quality is even worse than LP so i don't recommend it. Hope this helps

What's the difference between mode SP and LP in recording a video?
Q. Video recording.
Asked by pmjaguar - Thu Sep 6 21:40:55 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. On my camcorder. SP means standard play or short play. LP mean low play or long play. Either way SP should give better quality. Some times the different is barley noticeable. I just stick with the default setting on my camcorder. My camcorder also has HP which stands for Harry potter and it does magical things on that setting... Just kidding. It also has one more higher quality setting setting.

Is there a DVD recorder with VCR that has decent quality (not pixelated) when recording on LP or EP mode?
Q. Had a Panasonic that broke down after 1.5 years, so looking to replace it. Looking for a DVD recorder that records in good quality at longer time rates. Tried a Samsung, but has a very poor, pixelated quality when recording something over 2 hours in length.
Asked by simonova33 - Thu Feb 21 16:48:26 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Most DVD recorders are not going to be clear beyond 2 hours because of the need to compress the data to fit on the disc. That's not a player feature, that's a DVD format feature.

Hi8mm Tape will not record full 240 mins in LP mode..?
Q. I have purchased a 3pack of Hi8mm tapes for my camcorder...bu t it will not let me record the full 240 minutes in LP mode.. It only lets me record around 1 Hr and a half...I'd appreciate any help I can get
Asked by cagedtweetie2003 - Sun Feb 24 03:36:45 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If your camcorder is a Digital8, then using Hi8 tapes will only play for half time. that is because Digital8 runs the tape at double speed for digital recording. a Hi8 120 min tape will run 1 hour at digital SP and 1.5 hour at digital LP, as you have discovered.

what id the differance in sp, lp, ep mode on a video cassette tape?
Q. i have a blank vhs tape and 3 different modes are on it sp hase 2 hour recording time lp mode has 4 hour recording time and ep has 6 hour recording time how do i set it to record on ep mode
Asked by Real Mc Fly01 - Thu Jul 19 13:54:39 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. "SP" = short play; the tape can record 2 hours of programming "LP" = long play; tape can record 4 hours "EP" = extended play; tape can record 6 hours The more hours you try to squeeze on a tape the lower the quality will be. For example, at the sp speed the tape is spinning faster, which means longer lengths of tape on which to record data. At ep speed the tape spins slower, which means the same data is crammed into shorter tape length (and thus not all data quality is good). If you want quality recordings, use sp. If you don't care about quality and want to cram in as much as possible, use ep.

A. yeah your tapes guides (that controls where the tape is placed accross the heads) are loose and need to be read ajusted and tightened, you should get it done as soon as possible before the tapes are recked.

Recording on a DVD - How Many Minutes in EP Mode and MLP Mode?
Q. Im trying to find a refrence on how many minutes of recording time I can expect to get on a DVD in the EP Mode and also in the MLP Mode...it does not say in my instruction book. On the Package the DVD's came in, it refrence the SP mode as 120 minutes of recording time, and the LP mode 240 minutes.
Asked by John P - Thu May 3 02:15:44 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You need to find the bit rate associated with EP and MLP (for example 2 Mbits/s or 4 Mbits/s, etc.) Then, given that a DVD is about 5 GB you can estimate the max. recording time.

Over the years I have recorded in 'short play' (SP) & 'long play' (LP) on a Sony video 8 Handycam?
Q. . But now when I play back all those tapes that were recorded in LP, the picture has white lines Across and runs slightly faster than normal, the sound is speeded up as well. Obviously when recording in LP the tape must run slower than SP, so it s as though the Camera has forgot that the tapes were recorded in LP and plays the LP tapes in SP mode, hence the tapes playing too fast for the original recording mode. To through a further spanner in the works. I have just made a fresh recording on one of those old tapes in LP mode, And this time that section of LP works fine. Any help to rectify this please.

A. First thing try cleaning the heads, as its not picking up the code that tells the camcorder to switch to LP. Try to start to play the LP after a few seconds of the section. I assume this is the same camcorder that the video was taken on, as using a different camcorder this is quite normal. The model waould have helped, not able to do a search to see if there are other issues. again try cleaning the heads. Good luck RR

Why in yu-gi-oh 5D anime are monsters summoned in defense mode but face up?
Q. E.g: Yusei in episode 45 summons Shield Wing in defense mode, but why is the card face up (aka the opponent can see the monster)? Normally you summon in defense mode face down. What happened to monsters with flip effects?? :( Also wondering what episode did the 4000 LP take place in (somewhere in the original Yu-gi-oh)

A. This face-up defence position thing was from the start of yugioh when lps were 2000 and monsters couldn't attack directly. I don't know why the do that but it is for the anime's purpose.

LP vs SP digital recording
Q. Hi. I have a camcorder (Samsung VP-DX10). It can record in LP or SP modes. If I record in LP, will I really lose much video quality? Actually, I mean: will this loss in quality, if any, be obvious in the appearance of the video while playing or is it only palpable when editing, etc? Thanks.
Asked by Still Alone - Tue Aug 12 03:05:06 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. DVD camcorders adjust the playing time by changing the bit rate they record at - the longer it plays the lower the bit rate and the lower the quality. "Obvious" is subjective, so you'll need to try it for yourself - choose subjects where there's a lot of movement and lighting changes. DVD camcorders are a poor choice if you want to edit your footage, even if it's recorded at the highest quality, but it can only get worse.

A. It's usually on your VCR's remote control. Also when I set up the recording using the timer menu, it gives the option to select the tape speed on that. You might want to consult your instruction manual. I always tuck the instruction manual under the VCR/DVD player so I can refer to it and it wont get lost.

Mini DV playback problem with Panasonic PV-GS50s in VCR mode.?
Q. Alright, I't had this camera for a while now, and I bought it with this problem because it was really cheap, and I can use it to record to SD memory. The problem is, when I record the video on my DV cassette, If I rewind from the camera/standby mode, I can see the images fine, or at least legibly wizzing past in reverse. However, in VCR mode when I go to watch the recording, I will rewind it (It is in blue screen mode like most cameras) and then when it gets to the beginning of the tape (where the tape cant rewind any further) It will flash the beginning of the video almost as a still and then go instantly to blue screen, where you can tell that it is thinking of something, but then after about 5 to 10 seconds it gives me an "Incompatible… [cont.]

What DVD disc do I need to fit a 2-3 hour+ movie?
Q. I'm using an LG HDD/DVD Recorder (model: RH265) to transfer old VHS to DVD. I've been using DVD-R and DVD-RW, but they can't seem to hold a full movie. Maybe it has something to do with the record modes (XP, SP, LP, EP, MLP, AUTO or FAST) but really I haven't a clue what I'm doing. Can somebody help?
Asked by SFF - Thu Nov 13 22:35:53 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. dvds can hold entire movies, though you may have to back down on quality for 2.5-3 hour movies. the other option is larger disks. if you have the correct writing capabilities, you can buy special DVD-9 disks on certain websites that can hold almost twice as much as a normal dvd.

Math problem help please!?
Q. can i have some help with this problem. A blank T-120 VHS videocassette tape has space for exactly two hours in SP mode, four hours in LP mode, and six hours in EP mode. Vino has recorded three one-hour episodes of Party of Five on the same tape: the first one in SP, the second in LP, and the third in EP. What is the number of minutes in SP mode that remain on the tape?
Asked by Samus - Wed Dec 9 14:06:03 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Since the tape can record for twice as long in LP mode, an hour recorded in LP mode uses up half as much tape as an hour recorded in SP mode. So, in terms of the amount of tape used, an hour recorded in LP mode is equivalent to 30 minutes recorded in SP mode. Also the tape can record for three times as long in EP mode, so an hour recorded in EP mode uses up a third as much tape as an hour recorded in SP mode. So in terms of the amount of tape used, an hour recorded in EP mode is equivalent to 20 minutes recorded in SP mode. So how much tape has been used in all? 1 hour + 30 minutes + 20 minutes = 1 hour 50 minutes. The equivalent of 1 hour 50 minutes in SP mode has been used. As there is room for 2 hours in SP mode, there are 10 minutes… [cont.]

What to do? My digital recorder's capacity has decreased.?
Q. I have the Olympus WS-300M digital voice recorder. When I first bought it about 1 year ago, the storage and recording capacity was fine. However, now it is much less in each mode (ST HQ has 44m 41s, HQ has 1hr 29m 20s, SP has 2hrs 55m 48s, LP has 5hrs 49m 26s). When I got it each mode had much more. I can't remember exactly what it was, but when I looked it up online recently it said it should have 68 hours of recording time in LP mode (no info on all the other modes). This is when all folders are completely empty... no recordings, no data files, no music, nada. So, if nothing is taking up all the space, what could possibly be the problem? And how do I resolve it, if at all?

Panasonic PV GS-85 not playing tapes, recording on tapes and still capture are fine.?
Q. Thing is, the camcorder won't play any Mini DV tapes. I've been recording on the 3 tapes I own in LP mode since I bought it. The first problem was repaired without costing a penny (it was under it's warrenty still), that was the dislocated chassis (lost a tape due to chewing). Now the camcorder won't playback ANY tape, regardless if it's set to SP or LP mode. Recording is fine regardless of tape or SD card. When playback is done, the display looks like this (sorry, it's all in text) when using any tape. There is nothing wrong with the playback device at all. It might be a jammed head but i'm not quite sure. LP 0h00m00s00f --:--:--:-- --/--/-- I'm asking if you or anybody else has encountered the same problem with your panasonic pv gs- [cont.]
