How is Phoenix compared to other cities and what is so great about it?
Q. What is unique about Phoenix that you can't find elsewhere? If none, what are some things that are unique about Phoenix. How is Phoenix different from the other cities? Would you say it is better that many other cities as a place to live and work?

A. I'd go with the rest of the answers. It's really not great. Houses are very expensive, it's too hot. It never cools down as it is a concrete jungle. Traffic is bad. Arizona in all grew, and is still growing at such a tremendous rate that the developers can't keep up. So there is absolutely no character left in southern AZ. From Phoenix south, there's nothing special. Tucson is a wee bit better, but with our growth, the character is diminishing in lieu of housing developments. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place to visit. For maybe a week to get out of the cold, but no one could pay me enough to move here again. We're moving out of state because the schools are awful, the crime is way high (in Tucson, but more so in Phoenix), it… [cont.]

What are good restaurants in Phoenix to go to lunch and supper?
Q. This is mainly for research purposes for my new novel. I've been in Phoenix in 1/05. No fast food restaurants. But good restaurants to serve great food in the Phoenix Metro area inc. Sedona, that might include lobster. Excellent opinions from tourists and Arizona residents will be great.

A. I know plenty some really good ones!! Veneto Trattoria Italiana, an italian restaurant on the corner of Scottsdale Rd and McDonald Dr. Nice lunch and atmosphere, a lot of the servers have Spanish/Italian accent and are very nice too. Makes everything just perfect! Also La Madeleine is always good. A French street food style restaurant. Zinc Bistro by Kierland commons have excellent salad too^^

Phoenix area residents, where is a good location with mountain background to film a model?
Q. I want to take some photos of a model. We will be doing this in the phoenix area. What are some good locations to consider, preferably something with a good mountain background. I need to find an area with street access or easy to get to without hiking or anything since I will be carrying equipment. If you know of any such location please post the name of the mountain and any nearby street.

What is the best area of phoenix to spend 1 night?
Q. I am going to be in Phoenix one night and wanted to go out and have a great time. It will be a wednesday night the beginning of October. I would like to get lodgings in that area as well so it is accessible on foot. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks! Does anyone have an opinion on downtown Tempe? I am looking more for an area with interesting shops, sights and bars in the immediate area. I would prefer to not have to travel far or spend a fortune. Thanks for all your help!

A. If you are looking to party or go clubbing, I would suggest either Tempe or Old Town Scottsdale. If you are looking for a more wild west type of time, try North Scottsdale or Cave Creek. Personally if you are young, and of drinking age, Old Town Scottsdale would be the most fun. There are a lot of hotels in that area and you can walk easily to shopping, eating and clubbing.

Are there any community orchestras in the Phoenix area?
Q. I'm looking to join a community orchestra in the Phoenix area (northwest preferably), however the only ones I've found are those offered through community colleges, which isn't exactly what I had in mind. I really don't want to have to pay for going to school again, just to join an orchestra. Any help is appreciated.

A. I don't know myself, but there is an Arizona Orchestra Association. I would call the General Manager of the Phoneix Symphony Association Joel Levin at 602 495 1117 x 323. You could try the San Marcos Symphony. San Marcos Symphony "The San Marcos Symphony provides classical orchestral music performed by a wide range of volunteer musicians. The ninety members are drawn from across the Valley of the Sun and are led by the esteemed professional conductor, Jack Herriman. The symphony performs 5-6 free concerts each year at the Chandler Center for the Arts, located at 250 N. Arizona Avenue in Chandler, AZ. " (see web site below for contact details).

What is the vacation policy for the University of Phoenix employees?
Q. I'm job hunting right now, and have heard great things about the Apollo Groups (owner of University of Phoenix) business practices. I want to apply for a job, but I've already got a two week vacation to Africa booked for next year. Does anyone know what their vacation policy is?

A. Considering the way University of Phoniex is a scam in itself, I highly doubt that Apollo Groups has good business practices. If you are just starting a new job do you really expect to be able to take an extended period of time off. Most places do not even give paid vacation for a first year employee.

A. If you're taking the 10 all the way to LA, I'm sorry but it's pretty desolate. Once you get in to CA, there are some cute little towns you can stop and eat at. Drive time from Phoenix to LA is about 6.5 hours. Try looking at Google Earth...tracking your expected path. Vegas is WAY out of the way. You would have to go north for about 5 hours to end up in Vegas. From there it's about another 4-5 hours drive to LA.

what and how to lay gravels/rocks in the frontyard of Phoenix?
Q. The grass in the frontyard of my Phoenix house is all dead. I am planning to replace the grass with gravels/rocks. I wonder if I should lay 1 inch of rocks with fabric underneath or 2 inches of rocks without fabric? Any other better recommend option if I like to be able to have a few plants with minimal maintenance? Should I use river rocks or gravels (or maybe they are the same)? I assume the procedure is 1) remove dead grass 2) lay the fabric 3) place gravels evenly. Anything I may have missed?

The early Chinese believed in four magical, spiritual and benevolent animals; the Dragon, the Phoenix, the Tortoise and the Unicorn. The Dragon was the most revered of all.
