Which phone will have the option to phone to pc calling?
Q. I voice chat with my friends over gtalk everyday. I want such a phone so that it allows me to use gtalk inside the phone and allow me to call other online gtalk users . So that I dont have to sit with my laptop, mic and speaker, (no my laptop has nothing inbuilt) I want to move around and voice chat on gtalk, even while outside. I am Tmobile user and was planning to upgrade my phone.

How does the phone companies know you are using a Motorola Red phone?
Q. Phone companies in the UK promise to donate 5% of your monthly bill for calls made from a Motorola Red phone, using any SIM card. How do phone companies know you are using this phone?
Asked by theoracle - Mon Jun 12 17:21:23 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. They can tell the IMEI number of any phone you use with your SIM Card. The first 6 digits tell them the model number and the rest identify the specific phone you are using. This makes it fairly simple for them to create a list of calls made from a specific type of phone. This may seem like a waste of their resources to track the type of phone used for each call, but it is very useful in tracking the life of phones. This information can then be used in making decisions about upgrade programs, warranties, and marketing new models.

My friend got a new cell phone and gave me her old one. How do I use it with prepaid phone cards?
Q. When my own Cingular contract was complete, I bought prepaid phone cards for my Nokia phone. Now that my friend's Cingular contract is complete, how can I use her old LG G4015 phone with prepaid phone cards, considering that she transfered her phone number to her new phone? Will this involve SIM cards?

A. Call Cingular and they will walk you through the process. If its a pay as you go type arrangement they will issue you a set of codes. Or at least thats the way it works with Tracfone.

What kind of cell phone offers the ability to just buy phone cards each month?
Q. I need the cheapest cell phone possible. Both my home phone and cell phone aren't working and I need something that doesn't include a plan or long sign up process. What is the best phone wire to use to replace the original 1950's phone wire that is currently in my house?
Q. (Besides phone the new wire would also handle fax and DSL.) Also, what type of main phone terminal is recommended, if any? Right now my phone wire enters the house in the basement and is attached to a very old 2 screw phone terminal.

A. You can purchase standard low voltage phone wire and the junction box at any home improvement store. No need for special wire to handle your fax and dsl.

How does phone insurance work with Cingular?
Q. Do you have to bring in your phone to a Cingular store so they make sure you haven't already broken it before trying to get a new one? I'm guessing you do but I wanna make sure. Also, if I "break" my phone, do I need to bring in my phone to the Cingular store if I report it broken to get a new one? It's $50 to get a new one right? Oh and almost forgot, can you instead kinda like put credit towards getting a newer, better phone? I doubt you can but I don't know what Cingular's rules are on that so yeah... Thanks in advance.

What type of cell phone do you suggest for a 13 year old girl?
Q. I want to get a cell phone, but I want something I can show off to my friends. I also want a girly phone that isn't too expensive. I want the phone to look nice, so no phones with like floral patterns on it. I am looking for a phone that is twice as good as an LG Keybo or a Lg Shine. Preferably one that has a keypad for text messaging.

A. The Samsung Eternity is great, but a bit costy. It has a sleek touchscreen with a full keypad on the touch screen, and lets you draw your texts. If you want something cheaper i'll suggest the AT&T Quickfire. The touch screen isn't that great but the keypad is awesome and your friends will be jealous!

What is a good unlocked GSM phone to be used solely overseas?
Q. I currently have Alltel and Nextel services. However, unfortunately, Alltel operates on CDMA network and Nextel operates on IDEN network which is almost unheard of overseas. I am planning to work, study, and travel to Europe and South America in the course of the summer. I need an unlocked GSM phone with a prepaid SIM card, but that's all I know. I understand Alltel currently have no world phone, and Nextel has the i930 as it only marketed world phone but I cannot afford to cough up another $400.00 for the phone because I spent enough as is with travel and all. So, please advise me on the proper venue as I'm quite oblivious. I know Cingular and T-Mobile operates on GSM network but I cannot contract myself to another mobile phone… [cont.]

Q. I am shopping for a phone and I am noticing that many "cool" phones (phones with touch screens, full keyboard, etc) say that they are smartphones. I am wondering what the difference between a smart phone and a regular phone. Thx!

A. A smart phone is usually a PDA phone that has many functions such as a Blackberry, Iphone, Instinct and others. Some have windows mobile and others have there own proprietary OS. Regular phones do internet and stuff but smart phones do it better and you can add applications to smart phones where it is harder to do to a regular phone.

A. The people on the 9/11 flights used seatback Airphones as others in this forum have stated. As a general rule cell phones don't work very well above about 7000 feet. Some airlines have explored the possibility of installing a device, similar in concept to a computer router, that would enable passengers to use personal cellphones while at cruise altitude. It will be expensive to install and and maintain so you can bet the airlines will charge for it. My2cents is correct, one of the main reasons for the ban by the FCC on cellphones is the accounting issue.
